The installation of a cistern is relatively simple. Like any tank the footprint of our excavation will be extensive and will require time to settle before landscaping. We can locate the pump for your cistern in the basement of your home or in the tank itself. The advantage to having the pump in the tank is reduced noise level in the residence when the pump is running. The advantage of having the pump in the house is that it is easy to work on, maintain or replace. In some areas of the county water wells are not available mostly due to the fact that lot sizes are to small. Cisterns are the only available option if municipal water is not available. Some of the advantages of a cistern are:
Once your cistern has been installed you should have it cleaned once every year to two years, its also a good idea to have your water tested once a year to ensure that you dont have bacteria that can be harmful to your health.
a. Clean city water that is treated with fluoride
b. As long as you keep it filled you will have water
c. No expensive treatment equipment
My water isn't working, what can I try?
There can be many reasons that your well pump is not working but a common problem is at the pressure switch
You can try tapping the top cover. Each time that your well pump turns on there is a small electrical arc that happens inside this switch. This over time can create a build up of carbon on the contact points. Giving it a little tap can sometimes get the pump running again for a short time. You will need a new pressure switch. This kind of repair should be done by a professional and Cobob would be more than happy to come out and get you running again. While we are onsite we can have a look at other aspects of the system to ensure you are 100%.
Never remove the cover to the pressure switch. Under the cover is 220 split phase electricity. It can cause injury or death.
The pressure switch seems fine, what now?
Has anyone done any work in or around the electrical panel? Was there a bad electrical storm? Did you see or hear anyone working in the area recently that was doing excavation?
You well pump runs on split phase 220 in most cases. This means that your breaker will be a double pull breaker and will be located in an odd spot in you panel. Instead of it occupying the top two spots you may find that it skips one and then is inserted. If anyone has made changes in the panel such as adding a hot tub plug or something they may have inadvertently moved the well breaker to the wrong spot. If the well pump does not receive split phase 220 it will not run.
During electrical storms lightning can strike the electrical infrastructure in your area and knock out one of the phases. This will make it imposable for your well pump to run. This will have to be addressed by your power provider.
Only electricians should open or work on electrical panels serious injury or death can occur.
We have electricity but the pump is still not working.
In most cases this means you have a down hole issue. This needs to be addressed by someone with a service rig. Cobob’s service rig is special in that we have a spool for you drop pipe. This is required by municipal affairs as it keeps your drop pipe from being contaminated by lying on the ground. Never try and pull your own pump, it can be dangerous and you may cause further harm to your well.
Down hole issues can be:
1. Broken or compremised
2. Pitless adaptor leak or break.
3. Pump needs to be replaced.
If you do not have water and the situation demands that you will require and new well we have a portable system that we can set up at your home while we arrange all the details.
In addition to getting you water we can also take care of financing your new water well. Most people dont plan on needing to drill a new water well and drilling a well can be expensive so you can rely on Cobob to help you get things back on track.
